Week 12: Mountains, Grass, and a Week Off Work
A short build-in-public note about stepping away after launch pressure, taking a family trip, and returning to the work with healthier distance.
Build in Public — Week 12 (July 11–19)
For more than two months, my life had one rhythm: wake up, check the Play Console, fix a bug, write a paragraph, sleep. Repeat. The app was moving forward — closed testing, bug hunts, launch prep — but I could feel the battery draining in a way that had nothing to do with my phone.
So in the second week of July, my family and I left the city for a while. Nine days. No release checklist, no build to babysit. Just a car, a road, and each other.

The first thing that hit me was the sky. After months of screens, the blue felt almost too bright. We drove through valleys where the mountains folded into one another like a slow wave. The grassland ran all the way to the horizon, and the road kept going straight until it shrank to a thin line and disappeared.

Somewhere along the way we pulled over at a meadow full of wildflowers. I didn’t take notes. I didn’t check my phone for hours. We just walked slowly and let the day be long.

Here’s the thing I keep thinking about. For two months I treated every minute as something to spend on the app. Being with family, surrounded by mountains and grass and sky, I remembered that some minutes aren’t there to be used. The worries didn’t disappear — launch is still ahead, bugs are still waiting — but they moved to a healthy distance, where they stop filling the whole frame.
Next week: back to work. The road is still out there.
